In this article, I express my concern about campus administration lifting the mask mandate. Lecturers including myself are frustrated and disappointed that the administration refuses to consult with us about this new policy despite the fact that we teach over 42% of the student credit hours, and often in poorly ventilated classrooms.

This article covers the new lecturer contract reached between my union, UC-AFT, and the UC Office of the President, after two and a half years of tough negotiations. I was quoted as saying: “This is an emotional moment for us,” Chang said, noting that it took 50 bargaining sessions with UC to reach the agreement on the contract that had expired in January 2020. She said lecturers feel exhausted but elated — and inspired. This is a labor movement afoot.This is just the beginning.”
